Pattern Notes
The knitted band is made first and then the fabric portion is cut to fit the band. Then the coordinating zipper is attached by hand.
All seam allowances are 1/4".
Knitted Band
CO 70 sts. Work 1-3/4" of garter stitch (knit every row). BO.
Sewn Bag
Fold knitted band in half and measure length Add 2-1/2" to it. Cut a piece of fabric 9" tall x the length measured against the band.
Baste four 1/2" pleats in each of the wide ends of the rectangle. Angle all pleats inward refrencing photos for placement. Check to confirm that bag will fit knitted band.
When sizing fabric to meet with knitting, err on the side of the fabric being larger than the knitted piece. Knitting has a lot of give in comparison to fabric and can be eased to accommodate a larger piece of fabric.
Fold fabric in half with right sides together, meeting both sets of pleats. Sew seams along both shorter ends. Trim corners and turn inside out.
Fold raw edges down along top to and sew a double 1/4" hem (fold fabric under twice).
Hand sew band to fabric, easing in fabric if necessary.
Pin zipper to band and hand sew in place.
