Pattern Notes

  • When more than one number is given, the 1st applies to size Small, the 2nd to Medium, and the 3rd one to Large.
  • About beads: this pattern works perfectly well without beads, but if you do decide to add some extra bling you can do this by first placing the bead on your unknit stitch using a crochet hook, super floss or another beading tool. Once you have placed the bead, you put the stitch back on your LHN and you knit it.
If you choose not to add beads, you just knit the stitch as you normally would.
  • Work the sts as they appear means that you keep working in the established pattern: Knit all the knits, purl all the purls, ktbl all the ktbl’s.

If you prefer to use written instructions, we’ve included them at the end of the pattern.

Pattern

Cuff

CO 60 (70, 80) sts using German twisted cast-on and join for knitting in the rnd. Place marker for BOR. Split the sts evenly on two sides of the same needle (for magic loop). First 30 (35, 40) sts are referred to as needle 1, the second set of 30 (35, 40) sts are referred to as needle 2.
*Ktbl1, p1, rep from * to end. Work this row 13 times more.

Leg

Start working rnds 1 to 33 of chart A 6 (7, 8) times per rnd. If you prefer to use the written, we’ve included them at the end of the pattern.
Note that in rnd 16 and 32 you’ll be using the 1st st of rnd 17 and 33 in order to cross your last cable, so you will not be working the 1st st of rnd 17 and 33 during the 1st repeat. The remaining repeats can be worked as per rnd 17 and 33 of chart A.

Once you have completed chart A, continue with rnds 1 to 4 of chart B. Chart B is worked 6 (7, 8) per rnd. Keep repeating rnds 1 to 4 until the leg measures approximately 6 ½” or 16.5 cm from cuff, ending after a rnd 1.

Heel

Size Medium only: Remove BOR marker. Ktbl1, p1 and shift both sts to the end of needle 2, and move 2 sts from the beginning of needle 2 over to needle 1 (you’ll end up with 35 sts on each needle). Place new BOR marker.

Size Small and Size Large: Move 2 sts from the end of needle 1 to the beginning of needle 2.

The 1st set of 29 (35, 39) sts will be the back of the leg on needle 1, the 2nd set of 31 (35, 41) sts will be the front of the leg on needle 2. Rearrange your sts if necessary. The 1st set of 29 (35, 39) sts will be the back of the leg on needle 1, the 2nd set of 31 (35, 41) sts will be the front of the leg on needle 2.

Gusset

Rnd 1: On needle 1, ktbl1 (0, 1), p1 (0, 1), pfb, pm, *k3, p2, ktbl1, p1, ktbl1, p2, rep from * 2 (3, 3) times, k3, pm, pfb, p1 (0, 1), ktbl 1 (0, 1). On needle 2, keep working chart B as established. Note: Size Medium only: you will start with the 3rd st and end with st 7.

Rnd 2: On needle 1, work sts as they appear. On needle 2, keep working chart B as established.

Rnd 3: On needle 1, ktbl1 (0, 1), p1 (0, 1), pfb, p to marker, sm, *k3, p2, ktbl1, p1, ktbl1, p2, rep from * 2 (3, 3) times, k3, sm, p to 3 (1, 3) sts before end of needle, pfb, p1 (0, 1), ktbl1 (0, 1). On needle 2, keep working chart B as established.

Rnd 4: As rnd 2.

Work rnds 3 and 4 of gusset increases until you have 57 (67, 77) sts on needle 1: 28 (32, 38) sts increased. Work to BOR, mark where you are on chart B and continue with the instructions for the heel turn.

Heel turn

Only worked on Needle 1

Row 1: Knit 30 (36, 40), k2tog, k1. Turn.

Row 2: Sl1p, p4 (6, 4), ssp, p1. Turn.

Row 3: Sl1p, knit to 1 st before gap, k2tog, k1. Turn.

Row 4: Sl1p, purl to 1 st before gap, ssp, p1. Turn.

Work rows 1 and 2. Then keep repeating rows 3 and 4 until all sts on needle 1 have been worked. Remove the gusset increase markers as you pass them.
Remove BOR marker. Sl1p and shift st back to needle 2. Place BOR marker. K29 (35, 39). Move next st from needle 1 to needle 2.

Size Small and Large only: Ssp, work next row of chart B (continue where you left off before the heel turn) 3 (-, 4) times but don’t work the last st in the final repeat, p2tog.

Size Medium only: Ssk, k1, work next row of chart B (continue where you left off before the heel turn) 3 times, k1, k2tog. There should now be 60 (70, 80) sts on your needles.

Foot

On needle 1, k29 (35, 39). On needle 2, k0 (2, 0), p1, work next row of chart B 3 (3, 4) times, k0 (2, 0).

Continue instep in established pattern until the foot measures approximately 4 ½ to 4 ¾” or 11.4 to 12 cm less than desired length, ending with row 4 of chart B. Then work as follows: K all sts on needle 1, work rows 1-30 of chart C on needle 2.

Note that there is a different chart for sizes Small/Medium versus size Large.

Size Small and Medium only: for size Medium you will be working all the sts of chart C, for size Small you will only be working the sts in white.

Toe

Work the sts as they appear until the foot is 1 ⅗ (2, 2 ⅕)” or 4 (5.1, 5.6) cm less than desired length. Keep in mind your row gauge! The instructions for the toe will add a total length of 18 (22, 24) rows.

When starting the toe there should be 29 (35, 39) sole sts and 31 (35, 41) instep sts.

Size Small and Large only: on needle 1, k all sts. On needle 2, k1, ssk, work the sts as they appear until 3 sts before BOR, k2tog, k1; 2 sts decreased.

All sizes:

Knit the toe decreases as follows:

Rnd 1: Work the sts as they appear.

Rnd 2: *K1, ssk, work the sts as they appear until 3 sts rem before end of needle, k2tog, k1, rep from * once more; 4 sts decreased.

Work rnds 1 and 2 another 7 (9, 9) times. 26 (30, 38) sts remain. Rnd 2 is then worked 2 (2, 4) times. 18 (22, 22) sts remain, 9 (11, 11) on each needle.

Finishing

Use Kitchener stitch to graft the remaining toe sts together. Knit the second sock.

Weave in all ends. Soak the socks gently in lukewarm water for 5 to 10 minutes. Dry flat, using sock blockers if desired.
