Add a Vikkel Braid or a Horizontal Braid to your next project! It’s an easy way to add a little something extra.
The Vikkel Braid is worked on the Right Side and can be worked on any number of sts.
Here’s where we’ll start:
Read below to learn how to do it with a contrasting color!
Cast on an extra stitch with either the cable or knitted-on cast on.
Knit the second stitch through the back loop. DO NOT try to slip it off the needle.
Knit the first stitch the regular way (through the front loop). Take care to work this a bit looser. This stitch will become the horizontal braid.
Slip both stitches off the left needle.
Repeat Steps 2-5 until there is 1 st rem. Here it is after a few reps.
Knit the stitch. Drop it off the needle. Bind off the regular way by slipping the second stitch over the first.
Vikkel Braid in a Contrasting Color
Have the contrast color ready to work.
Work the same steps as above, but do a few of them in the contrasting color. The easy thing is that once you’ve set up things, you simply work each stitch with the same color yarn.
Cast on 1 stitch with CC. Slip it back to the left needle.
You now have MC and CC loops on the left needle. Remember the rule – work each stitch using the same color yarn as what the loop is.
Using MC, knit the second stitch through the back loop. DO NOT TRY TO SLIP THE STITCH OFF.
Using CC, knit the first stitch the regular way.
Slip both stitches off the needle.
Slip the first stitch back to the left needle. You again have MC – CC on the left needle.
Here it is after a few stitches:
Repeat Steps 2-5 until 1 st rem. On the final repeat, do not slip the stitch back to the left needle.
Using MC, knit the stitch. Drop it off the needle. Bind off the regular way by slipping the second stitch over the first.
