Talking about washing a project can be downright scary – but it can have great results!
Here are 6 reasons you should consider washing your project…
1. Make your project look nicer
We all know the magic of blocking. Washing and drying does the same thing. Just look at this before and after pic. See how much tighter and uniform the coaster looks after a wash and dry? And the texture is improved too – a bit denser and firmer.
2. It’s a gift
If you’re giving it as a gift, chances are they won’t take care of it the same way you will. Make sure it can be washed and dried – before you ever give it to the recipient.
After is probably a little late (ask me how I know…)
3. Easier FO care
Even if you’re keeping it – how easy is it to drop in the washer and dryer?
4. So you don’t miss an opportunity
You won’t know what your yarn will do until you try.
5. Size your project appropriately
Sometimes a little pre-planning can mean you can wash and dry your FO. It usually means it’ll shrink a bit though so you probably need to plan ahead. See the coaster below? It shrank just a little bit (and didn’t bleed at all!). Phew.
6. Labels lie
I’ve confirmed this time and time again. If the fibers are washable/dryable – give it a go! I don’t recommend trying it out after you put 14 hours of work into it, but a little swatch? Sure.
