I love this quote from Thomas Edison
It sums up crafting perfectly. We try a bunch of things and they don’t work. But we don’t let that get us down. Every time we try something that doesn’t work – we learn from it. A new way to do something. A different way to think about things. A new technique. It all helps make us craft smarter.
So the next time you try something and it doesn’t work, don’t think of it as having failed. Think of it as having learned from it. Because even when something doesn’t work, you grow. Even if it doesn’t feel like it then.
I promise.
And while I’m at it, don’t look for instant gratification. Those are expectations you’re sure to miss. Don’t try to do things the fastest. Just try to do them really well. No one will look at your FO and think “wow, she made that fast” but they will look at it and think “ugh, what a sloppy job”.
So again, remember, you learn something new every time something doesn’t work. You won’t likely make that same mistake again. You become a better crafter.
So be a better crafter today. You deserve the thought “wow, what a great project”.
