If you know how to do a Long Tail Cast On, you can do the Beaded Long Tail Cast On.
There are many ways to do this cast on, but we’ll do the pre-strung method here.
For our purposes, we’re going to bead every other stitch. You can choose a different repeat, but I’ll say that every stitch is a lot. Don’t discount the amount of weight that beads add – it can be a lot. Plus, every other stitch – or more – gives the beads a chance to catch the light and glimmer.
How to Work the Beaded Long Tail Cast On
Step 1: Prestring the beads onto your yarn.
Step 2: Form a slip knot and place it on your needle. Keep the beads on the tail side.
Step 3: Make the first long tail cast on.
Step 4: Slide a bead to sit snugly against the stitch.
Step 5: Cast on 2 more stitches. It might make it easier if you hold the bead with your thumb nail, or if you make sure you don’t form the cast on stitch over the bead. Once you do it a few times, you should start to get the hang of it.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you’ve cast on all stitches.
Here’s what it looks like after you’ve cast on a bunch of stitches.
And here’s how it looks after working a few plain rows after it.
About the Instructor: Jody Richards
Jody loves pouring over stitch dictionaries and trying out new stitches. And while she likes all things crafting (well ok, except that one thing), yarn crafts are her true love (and she has the stash to prove it).
She’s a serial starter-of-projects and has a serious problem with finishing things without a deadline.
And don’t get her talking about hand-dyed yarns. You’ve been warned.
