Knit from cozy natural fibers of wool, silk, and mohair, this long scarf will provide years of warmth and beauty, wrapped double around your neck with ends flung over your shoulder, or hanging decoratively along the front, or maybe tucked into your jacket. The beautiful striping colors highlight a repeating pattern of garter sections and stockinette columns divided by raised bars.

Repeat this sequence — A-B-A-C, rows 4 through 27 for an additional18 times (both widths), or until you’ve reached a length you like. Work Section A one more time, knit three more rows (garter stitch – all knit) and bind off using preferred method. Weave in ends.
Make optional tassels: Cut 3 lengths of yarn three times the length of the desired tassel. Fold the lengths in half. Using a crochet hook, pull the length through two stitches on end of scarf. Fasten yarns by pulling them through the loop. Make a braid. Tie a knot at end of tassel. Tie another knot along length of tassel. Make as many tassels as you want, spacing them evenly along the ends of the scarf. Trim loose ends.
Finishing
Hand wash in mild soap such as Eucalan. Do not squeeze tightly. Spread flat to dry.
The finished scarf will show raised textures along stitch change lines, as shown in photos. Washing will flatten the stitches slightly. If you wish to preserve this texture, dry clean scarf.
After making your first scarf according to the pattern, you can make additional scarves using creative modifications by changing the number of stitch and/or row repetitions. Keep in mind that changing numbers of repetitions, as well as changing yarn type, will also change the final measurements of the scarf.
