Tell us a bit more about yourself.
I live in Lincoln, NE and have lived here most of my life. I have 2 kids with my high school sweetheart, plus a dog and a cat. I work full-time as a web developer for a global sports company so all of my Lofty Loops Yarns work happens in the evenings and on weekends.
Are you a knitter or crocheter?
Both! Although most of my time is spent knitting. I do have a fair amount of scrappy crochet projects on the go, though.
Any favorite tips for us?
Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask questions on social media! I’ve found that so many makers are happy to help guide other makers on their journeys.
How did you get into dyeing yarn?
I’ve always been a creative person and I was looking for a tangible outlet for that creativity since most of my time is spent working on a computer. I started knitting and got a wild hair to try to make my own yarn using YouTube tutorials, food coloring, and Kool-Aid. It quickly turned into what Lofty Loops Yarns is today!
When did you start Lofty Loops?
In 2017! We just had our 5th birthday.
Do you offer yarn that’s available immediately? Or, are things just dyed to-order?
Yes, we have ready-to-ship yarn as well as dyed-to-order collections throughout the year. The shop is always pretty stocked with yarn!
Yarn weights
Fingering weight and DK are my favorites!
Types of objects (e.g., shawls, hats, etc.)
I love to knit socks since they’re so quick, but lately have been drawn to sweaters and shawls. I’m a process knitter so any pattern that catches my eye goes into the queue.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Everywhere! I tend to pull a lot of inspiration from books (I’m an avid reader) and tv shows/movies. I like to create mood boards based on an idea or color palette.
Who are your favorite designers? (both craft and non-craft)
Oh gosh, that is a difficult question. I knit so many of Tamy Gore’s patterns. I love how she plays with texture and colors.
Check out Tamy on Instagram or Ravelry.
Do you have a stash? Or if you buy it you make it up pretty quickly?
Yes! I have quite the overwhelming stash.
And has your stash grown given that you’re a dyer?
It has definitely grown. I have my own cubby full of yarn I’ve dyed, but I’ve also found that I appreciate other indie dyers more now and try to support them as much as I can.
Do you have stash that’s to-be-made and stash that’s to-be-dyed?
All of my stash is to-be-made. They’re skeins that I purchased for a specific project or just because they’re pretty.
And, most importantly – where can we find you?
