Year of Color 2026 — Month 2 of 12
Welcome to Year of Color!
This month’s granny square uses puff stitches to create soft, rounded texture in our Soft Pastels palette. The puffs cluster in gentle rings, giving the square an almost cloud-like quality, perfect for February’s softer mood.

Materials
- Yarn: Cascade Heritage Fingering in Butter (A), Pale Peach (B), and Thistle (C)
- Hook: E/4 (3.5mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
- Gauge: 24 sts and 20 rows = 4″
- Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors
- Finished size: 8″ × 8″ blocked
Abbreviations
ch chain • sc single crochet • hdc half double crochet • dc double crochet • sl st slip stitch • sp space • BLO back loop only • FLO front loop only
Special Stitches
dc inc: Work 2 dc’s in the stitch.
Starting Puff: Pull up the slipped stitch to be the height that you’ll want your puff stitches to be, *yo, insert hook, yo, pull through to that same height* a total of 2 times, yo, pull through all 5 sts on hook, lock the stitches by working a chain, but it doesn’t count as an actual chain. IMPORTANT: the ch 1 that you see after each puff IS NOT the locking stitch that you work at the end of a Puff Stitch.
In The Loop
Your MC forms strong circular frames. CC1 and CC2 have colors close in value. The subtlety lets MC do the visual work while the inner colors blend softly.
