Lockdown sent us all out of loop, but it also encouraged us to take up new hobbies. Over on the Knotions blog, we talked a bit about how to keep ourselves busy while we were stuck inside over the past few years. But it wasn’t just our readers who kept their hands busy with a pair of needles; people all over the world have gotten the crafting bug and have taken up knitting in recent years.

The BBC has commented about how fashionable knitted clothing is at the moment, and it is something that has gotten popular among more than a few famous faces. Whether it is something to help them keep busy between takes on a movie set or a coping mechanism for stress, here are just a few famous celebrities who knit.
Russell Crowe

It is no secret that Russell Crowe has a bit of an intense personality. As stated by E Online, his reputation for angry outbursts has plagued him his entire career. While these rumors might not have had a positive effect on his personal life, they have certainly helped him in many of his roles.
Some of his most intense, aggressive roles have become his most iconic, with movies like Gladiator transcending the film world into video games. There are some Gladiator-themed Slingo games featured on Gala Bingo, including Gladiator Jackpot and Gladiator Road to Rome. They both use the famed logo, whilst the wider Gladiator theme can be found on the iOS release Story of a Gladiator.
With a reputation for such intense behavior, it isn’t surprising that Crowe has spent a lot of time working on his anger issues. Knitting is just one example of how he distracts himself and tries to calm down.
Robin Williams

Known as one of the most celebrated and beloved comedic actors of all time, Robin Williams’s film roles stretched for decades and were as varied as the jokes he would make on stage during a stand-up show. Between all that, he was also an accomplished knitter who would spend a great deal of time on set with his needles.
In fact, during the filming of Mork and Mindy, he pushed to incorporate this hobby into his character to make him feel more grounded and human. With a mind that worked as quickly as his did, Williams often turned to hobbies like knitting to help him stay in the moment and focus during long days of filming.
George Lucas

Back in the late 70s, George Lucas helped shape a whole generation of film fans with his classic Star Wars trilogy. What started as a small, likely-to-fail genre flick soon became a cultural phenomenon that continues to this day. L
ucas was the writer and director of the first six films in the Star Wars franchise, as well as the man in charge of many of the toys, comics, and tv shows that they spawned.
His gaming studio has created multiple video games based on the Star Wars franchise, ranging from first-person shooters to RPGs to action platformers. With so much creative energy bouncing around in his head, he often needs something to help him focus. So in the 90s, he took up knitting as a hobby and he has been seen doing it ever since.
Christina Hendricks

The actress, best known for her work on Mad Men, has also lent her voice to multiple animated projects like Scoob! and Toy Story 4. Her on-screen appearances date all the way back to 1999 and she even had a brief stint as the con-artist wife of Mal in cult tv show Firefly. However, in her downtime, Christina Hendricks has said that her favorite relaxation ritual is knitting. The hobby helps her clear her head and forget about the busy day on set while also creating something fun and practical for her efforts.
