First, a little about Galicia
If you’re like me, you don’t know much about Galicia. Here are a few things I learned.
Galicia is in the northwest corner of Spain. The main languages spoken there are Galician (similar to Portuguese) and Spanish.
Unsurprisingly, given its proximity to the water, fish and shellfish are featured in a lot of its cuisine. Similarly, a rocky coast is often seen in Galician vistas, as seen in this pic in the book.
Some famous Galicians include Martin Sheen and Jerry Garcia
And back to the knitting
Now that we’ve had our culture lesson, let’s get back to the book.
The designs are streamlined with great details. Modern with a flair. If you’ve been a fan of Trelly’s designs in Knotions, this book won’t disappoint.
The stripes at the top of the Celta sweater give it something a little more than the traditional top-down raglan. It’s still a simple knit, but the color changes will keep in interesting to make and great to wear.
The Estrella Shawl is gorgeous with its three colors and simple lace. It’s that perfect combo of fun to make and wear.
How cool is it that we get to see a little of Galicia in this pic too? I love that the lines on the bridge are the flip of the shape of the shawl.
What about the hats?
I said in the beginning there were 5 hats in the book. If you’re looking a quick-to-make gift, take a look at the hats. Trelly has cables, fair isle, and simple stockinette – appropriate for both men and women.
Since I’m gaga over cables, I’ll show you my favorite, Lucia:
It’s knit in a worsted weight – so it’s quick – and that pom pom is SO cute!
Give Galician Knits a peruse. You might just find a few designs you like too.
