The garter stitch wings of the Geode Shawl frame the intricate (but easy to work) central diamond lace panel much like the rocky shell of a geode frames the sparkling crystal inside.
Geode is a top-down crescent-shaped shawl which starts with a garter stitch tab and finishes with a simple eyelet edging. The size of the shawl is easily adapted by working more or fewer repeats of the body section. The crescent shape makes the shawl easy to wear in a number of ways: draped over shoulders, bandana-style or somewhere between the two.

Pattern Notes
As an alternative to the Garter Stitch Tab, you can cast on 9 stitches and start working the Setup section straightaway. However, the Garter Stitch Tab will give a nicer edge.
Work the Setup and Body sections either from the chart or the written instructions.
If you are working from the charts, place stitch markers at the second and third “no stitch” columns (these separate the garter wings from the central lace panel). If you want to use stitch markers to indicate each repeat of the lace pattern (shown by the red lines in the chart), I suggest you use a different color.
If you are using stitch markers to mark lace repeats, you will have an “extra” stitch after working the stitches before the marker on Rows 7 and 13 of the Body, where there is a “sk2psso” after a marker. Slip that stitch to the right-hand needle, remove the marker, return the stitch to the left-handle needle and place the marker back on the right-hand needle. Continue working from the chart or written instructions.
