Can you believe it’s so close? It’ll be here before we know it!
A couple things to make your gifting a bit easier:
Are They Craft-Worthy?
Some recipients just won’t appreciate all the effort you put into a handmade gift. And others would greatly prefer an inexpensive superwash yarn instead of that awesome hand dyed you have your eye on. Be honest about the recipient. In the end you’re making this for them.
Slow and Steady Wins the Race
Said another way – start NOW. Do a few rows a day. Think of all that you’ll have in a month or two even if the daily progress looks minimal. It adds up!
Make a Plan
List the people you want to craft for, the amount of time it’ll take for each (in hours), their priority, the cost of supplies, a due date, and if you need to purchase any. Priority might seem like an add one. But yes – Aunt Mabel might not rank as high as say, your mom. If you find that you have too much to do, this is a great first place to trim from.
Sort the list by priority and if you need any supplies. If you need any supplies, this is the time to research them and place orders. You want to make sure you can go, go, go when the time is here.
Download our spreadsheet from Google Spreadsheets. It’ll be one less thing for you to do!
Be Realistic
If your plan says it’s going to take 10 months then you need to trim it down. Keep note of a few for next year and replace a couple with store-bought (but heartfelt) items. Do this now because it’s only going to harder to do this later on and you might not even be able to buy the gift you want to give instead at that point.
Work the Plan
Once your list is sorted by priority, you’ll have a list of what to do now and what to start later.
Get to Work
A plan is only good if you actually do it. Don’t procrastinate and then get stuck pulling all-nighters to make it in time. Start now so you actually have, well, time.
When I download this it is in “view only” mode so I am unable to use it.
thanks!
when you get it in Google Spreadsheets you need to use the Google menu (not your browser’s menu) and select File>Make a copy.
that should work but let me know if it doesn’t. i made it read-only so people wouldn’t see and be able to change each other’s edits.
