Indie businesses. I love their creativity. Their one-of-a-kind uniqueness. Heck, I even love their packaging. 

Here are a few indie dyers that always catch my eye. I’ve used over three quarters of them myself. The rest have all come from the recommendations of trusted friends. 

Since we all love learning about yarn, let’s get down to it. 

Black Bunny – Yarns dyed by Carol Sulcoski in gorgeous semi-solids, gradients and self-striping. And since Carol is a knitter herself you can be sure you’re getting a quality product from the yarn choice all the way through to the dyeing.

Dragonfly Fibers – Great dyeing and great blends. This is another I look for at all the shows.

Gnarled Paw – Gorgeous yarn made with care. I love this brand and you can read my review or our interview with Liz. Don’t miss Gnarled Paw – it’s gorgeous!

Gnome Acres – Fun names like “Aurora Gnomealis” in gorgeous yarns and dyes. She also has Doppleganger sets – 2 coordinating skeins, sometimes 2 variegated, and sometimes a variegated and a solid.

Fibernymph Dye Works – Self-striping, sock blanks, gradients, and Inversibles (2 single-skeins of sock yarn with opposite stripes so they coordinate but aren’t the same)

Ladybug Fiber Company – Gradients, self-striping and semi-solids. She has a beautiful mix of yarns.

Leading Men Fiber Arts – Gradients, sock blanks, mini skeins and semi-solids – all dyed up in their awesome colors.

Looking Glass Fiber Art (formerly Ball of Love) – highly saturated colors (pinks, purples, blues, greens). Lizzie even custom-dyed me some yarn after I sent her a photoshop pic of what I was looking for.

LYNAI yarns – Beautiful, dappled color. She has variegated, semi-solid and speckled.

Neighborhood Fiber Company –  Gorgeous hand-dyed yarns, gradients and a selection of patterns too. Karida goes to lots of the shows and displays quite a few samples.

Spinning Fates – self-striping and lovely variegated yarns. I saw something I liked on Ravelry and Laurel dyed it up for me.

Spun Right Round – Beautiful yarns in semi-solid, variegated and kits. Christina used Spun Right Round in her City Street shawl.

Give these brands a try. You’ll get some beautiful yarn *and* you’ll be supporting a small business. Win-win, right?
