Ravelry Hot Right NowAs a knitter and a designer, I find that I spend a lot of time swatching. Swatching to learn new techniques, to try new stitch patterns, to see what gauge I get. These little cuffs are the perfect place to swatch Roositud Inlay stitches and end up with a useful item, rather than just one more swatch floating around the house.

Worked in the round, using up small bits and bobs of leftover sock yarn, they also make great “stash busters”.

Yarn

Arrow Head Fibers Basic Sock (75% Merino Wool, 25% Nylon; 463 yds [423 m]/100 gr): Silver Fox (MC), 1 ball.

ArrowHead Fibers Sparkle Sock (75% Merino Wool, 20% Nylon, 10% Silver Stellina; 463 yds [423 m]/100 gr): Lagoon (CC), 1 ball.

Needle/Hook

Size US 1 (2.25mm) needles, dpns or (2) 24″ (61cm) circulars or (1) 32” (81cm) circular needle for preferred method of small circumference in the rnd knitting.

Or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge

36 sts and 28 rows = 4″ [10cm] in St st

36 sts and 28 rows = 4″ [10cm] in patt after blocking

Size

7″(18cm) circumference and 6.5″ (16.5cm) long

Notions

Tapestry needle, 3 stitch markers (one unique for BOR).

Roositud Tutorial

Make Ribbing More Even

Pattern Notes

  • These cuffs are worked in the round.
  • Cuffs use only small amounts of yarn, perfect for using up your leftovers.
  • CC is held double throughout Roositud inlay pattern.
  • To increase (or decrease) circumference, add (or subtract) sts in multiples of 4 to the cast on.
  • To increase length, work more St st rows before and after the Roositud inlay chart.
  • Roositud In The Round: Once you’ve worked the first round, CC yarn will be at the left of the chart. To work future even rounds, simply bring that yarn to the RS and to the first needed stitch. Don’t worry too much about tension yet. Once done with the Roositud part of that round, adjust the tension so it’s correct and continue working with MC.

About the Designer: Mary E. Rose

Mary learned to knit as a young child and it has had an impact on her life ever since. As a teen, when her friends were getting jobs at fast food restaurants, Mary worked at her LYS, where the hours and working conditions were much better.

As with many knitters, when she couldn’t find patterns for what she wanted to knit, she started designing her own.

She currently lives in Central Ohio with her three children, who also craft. She can be found on Ravelryand her blog, or with knitting needles in hand, guarding her stash.
