This book came out in 1999! I can’t believe I’ve had it all this time and never used it!

Nicky gives us both written instructions and well as charts.
It’s a treasure trove of things to add. I can’t stop thinking of a new way to use them. I’m struggling not to end every sentence with an exclamation point. The book is *that good*.
Here’s a couple of the ribbing pages – with both Written and Charts:
There are chapters on:
- The Heart of the Matter. This is an exploration of using one shape in a bunch of different ways. Even if you don’t care for hearts, you can gets TONS of ideas!
- Appliqué
- Borders and Edgings
- Cords
- Embroidery
- Fringes, Tassels, Pom Poms and Ties
- Creative Combinations
And Nicky shows you how to do the unusual bits.
What’s so striking is that these can be used in SO MANY ways! Here are a few ideas that sprung to mind as I was flipping through the pages:
- Pair of jeans
- Bag
- Back pack
- Curtains
- Valences
- Table cloths
- Hats
- Mitts/Mittens
- Cowls
- Scarves
- Shawls
Just look at one more of the pages…
I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Give it a try – here it is on Amazon!
About the Writer: Jody Richards
Jody is the founder and lead editor of Knotions. She loves poring over stitch dictionaries and trying out new stitches.
She’s also on a mission to get everyone to embrace the blocking. And, to avoid using garter stitch edges in knit swatches made for gauge.
And while she likes all things crafting (well ok, except that one thing), yarn crafts are her true love (and she has the stash to prove it).
