Here’s What Alexis Says about her Book
[Story Maker is a] tale of the magic of making. [The book] is an illustrated short novel that includes 12 original knitting patterns inspired by the story.
See? I told you – get your knitting in with your reading.
What Makes It Stand Out
Alexis shares with us a bit more about Story Maker
My aim and hope is that it creates an immersive knitting/reading experience, and that the knitter/reader comes to appreciate the importance of their own handiwork in a new light. The patterns are from the story, but in the story the patterns are how the story is actually told – through the knitting.
The Patterns are Size Inclusive
The garments are sized from S-5X

There are:
- Shawls
- Mittens
- Socks
- A Hat
- A Cowl
- Fingerless Gloves
- A Tunic
- Sweaters
A Hidden Gem in the Colors
This is so cool, and I’m not sure that I would have noticed it unless Alexis told me.
The color palettes of the yarn and the FOs are also the same color palette in the illustrations too!
I love that little detail and it makes the whole book just a bit more special to me.
Alexis really put a lot of love into this book.
Which came first? The Knitting or the Reading?
I have a slightly different hope than Alexis – that this book makes Knitters into Readers.
I know that I don’t read nearly as much as I’d like. I tend to do Knitting or Crochet in most of my downtime. This book might be different though, because even though I’d be reading, I’d also get my Knit Fix.
If You Buy Like Me
I can tell you in chatting with Alexis, it was clear that she’s just a nice person. And that checks lots of boxes for me. I can comfortably support Alexis and Story Maker/Made (both the book and the yarn).
I hadn’t considered Story Made yarns before, but after this, you can bet that I’ll be looking at it and considering it.
About the Reviewer: Jody Richards

I’m the knitting-obsessed, crochet-loving, math-geeky, web-dev girl behind Knotions. I’m passionate about helping crafters become even better at what they love, whether that means understanding why a stitch works a certain way or discovering their next favorite yarn.
Crafting runs deep in my roots—my mom was an avid embroiderer and sewist, and she sparked my lifelong love of all things crafty. Since those early days, I’ve combined my degrees in Math and Computer Science with over two decades of experience in digital marketing to build Knotions into a place that’s both fun and informative.
My mission at Knotions is simple: to empower crafters to craft smarter. Let’s make something awesome together!
