The Cable Factor Volume 3: 37 Intriguing Designs
Annie Maloney
Available from Needle Arts Knitting
You guys know I love me some cables, so Cable Factor spoke my name.
Interesting Designs? Check. The cables wind around each other and go off on their own and then come back.
Charts (my personal fave) and written? Check and check.
Pictures of all the cables? You guessed it – check. And they’re all in a cream color so the details really pop.
Beautiful Book
This book (in PDF form only) is beautiful. Given the size of the cables I’d say it’s a lot more than a stitch dictionary.
Browsing through it, I found myself daydreaming about all the ways I’d use the designs – sweaters, blankets, ponchos, fingerless mitts (so I could see them whenever I wore them). All gorgeous.
It reminded me of how I felt when I saw my first Elsebeth Lavold book. Or the first time I saw St. Brigid by Alice Starmore and knew I had to have it (I did make St. Brigid – although sadly I’ve lost a lot of weight since then and I can no longer wear it – but I sure do keep it folded nicely in a drawer because I’m not giving that one up).
Just look at some of these beautiful cables. Can’t you see them in your next project?
Great companion
No knock on this book AT ALL – but I think having a book of ribbing options to use with this one would be a great way to give yourself some more ideas. While I do see that you could use basic ribbing, books like that will give you lots of ideas on how to transition to the cables. It could be the basic Barbara Walker Treasuries or one of the Japanese Knitting Stitch Dictionaries.

Take It for a Spin
Give this one a try! The cables are gorgeous and unique. And it’s fun to just flip through it and daydream for a bit.
Not sure about your skills? Knit one up to give it a go (I didn’t say swatch). You’ll also be able to test out your yarn and needle choices.
