My Initial Reactions
I really liked working with the Liverpool Yarn! I knit up their Chunky on 10’s but all 3 yarns are made the same way. I expected to be able to just break the yarn when I was done but it was HARD to do and I ended up getting a scissor. The yarn is plied and wound a regular amount so it’s a solid yarn.
There was also *very little* VM (vegetative matter – you know, the little twigs and other “surprises” that are in many yarns). I found almost no excess lanolin and given that, it didn’t seem to have that feeling when you have a lot of lanolin in your wool (it was neither sticky nor slick). So, with all that being said, it’s also very clean.
Blocking
The stitches looked nice and consistent even before I blocked, and they bloomed very little during blocking (I’d guess that’s related to the washing). The swatch was also nice to touch, and I even rubbed it against my face to see what I thought. While it’s not as crazy-soft as a mohair or alpaca, it didn’t have any of that scratchiness that’s often associated with the more natural wools.
Final Thoughts
Given all this, it’s a very good product! Nice stitch definition, clean, takes a soak nicely, blocks well and it softens even more after a nice dip in the water. I give Liverpool Yarns the Knotions seal of approval.
