The SK2PSSO is a standard decrease in knitting. When you’re finished, you will have decreased 2 stitches – one on the right of the stitches, and one on the left. It’s very similar to the CDD (central double decrease), but unlike the CDD, the center stitch does NOT end up at the top.
Some notes about the SK2PSSO
- It’s also known as the Mesh lace stitch or English Mesh Stitch.
- It’s an easy way to create a textured lace element to your knitting.
- It’s described as mesh because the when passing the slipped stitch over it creates a sort of bar across the 2 knit stitches that results in an open space on either side of the 2 stitches.
How to Knit the SK2PSSO
Step 1: Slip the next stitch on your left handle needle as if to knit. One stitch on your right needle.
Step 2: Knit the next two stitches together just like a K2TOG. When you’re done with this step, you’ll have 1 more stitch on your right needle for a total of 2 stitches on your right needle. You will have reduced you stitch count by 1.
Step 3: Using your left hand needle, go to the slipped stitch before the k2tog (it’ll be the second stitch on your right needle) and pass that slipped stitch over the k2tog.
You will have decreased your stitch count by 1 more.
After you have completed the slip, k2tog, and passed the slipped stitch over the k2tog it will look like this:
And here are a few of the SK2PSSO sts worked on top of each other.
About the Instructor: Andi Gallegos
Andi Gallegos- aka Mysistersknitter on Ravelry- learned to first crochet more than 20 years ago from a coworker, while looking for a way to occupy herself during downtime at a call center job. A couple of years later after many attempts to teach herself to knit from books, she found a video that taught kids to knit and it suddenly clicked. Nowadays it is rare for a day to go by without at least one stitch being knit.
At that time living and knitting in sunny Arizona didn’t warrant a large knitting community, so Andi started a blog called My Sister’s Knitter as a way to connect with other knitters.
Andi believes that if everyone knit or crocheted the world would be a kindler, gentler place.
About the Instructor: Jody Richards
Jody loves pouring over stitch dictionaries and trying out new stitches. And while she likes all things crafting (well ok, except that one thing), yarn crafts are her true love (and she has the stash to prove it).
She’s a serial starter-of-projects and has a serious problem with finishing things without a deadline.
And don’t get her talking about hand-dyed yarns. You’ve been warned.
I love your titorial on SK2PSSO. I ha a bootie pattern that has Slip K2TOG back to left needle. Is this the samething.
This Pattern is RedHeart LW5205 Garter Stitch Baby Booties.
Thank you
Rhoda
Thanks!
In this case it doesn’t sound like they’re the same thing since you’re missing the psso.
