This cowl is perfect to wear when you go exploring. It will transition nicely between a walk downtown and a hike in the woods. Easy and fun to knit, “Slipping Outside” is worked entirely in the round. It begins and ends with garter stitch while an easy to memorize slip stitch pattern makes up most of the piece. It’s reversible too, so it can change with your mood!

Pattern Notes
All stitches are slipped purlwise with yarn to front of work. Err on the side of looseness where the strand that crosses over the slipped stitches is concerned. It is important to maintain a full two stitch lengths there.
Pattern
CO 100 sts, place marker and join to work in the round.
Work 3 rounds of garter stitch by working a round of purl, then a round of knit, and then a round of purl.
Begin working in “Slip Forward Stitch”. Work 9 full repeats of stitch pattern or until work measures 16”/41 cm from cast on edge. Begin one more repeat, this time ending after round 3 of main pattern.
Work 3 rounds garter stitch as you did in the beginning, by working a round of purl, then a round of knit, and then a round of purl.
Finishing
Bind off knitwise. Weave in all ends and block gently to size.
About the Designer: Deborah Breland
Deborah has been knitting since 2004. She has been teaching knitting for six years and loves to share the craft with others. As soon as she picked it up, she thought, “I should’ve been doing this my whole life!” and has been trying to make up for lost time ever since.
She is new to designing, but loves detailed work and adores yarn, so she is sure the design business was destined to happen. She has a grown daughter who has, in recent months, become a slightly reluctant knitwear model and a husband of eighteen years who has become a somewhat hesitant knitwear photographer.
She likes old television shows that remind her of her childhood in the ’70s. Remember “Land of the Lost”? It had claymation dinosaurs. She has watched that more recently than she cares to admit. She is turning 50 this year, but she hopes you will be classy and keep that between the two of you.
The designer would like you to feel free to contact her on Ravelry for any reason. Even if it’s just to say, “Hi.”
