I used Valley Yarns Valley Superwash Sport (100% Superwash Merino) and a US#5 (3.75 mm) needle.
This is the quintessential Nordic rose (star?) that’s on umpteen ski sweaters (usually in blue or red on a white background).
The only thing that really surprised me is that it’s called a Rose and not a Star.
One Tiny Change that I’d Make
If I were to make this again, I’d work a row of stockinette before I switched to garter at the top of the swatch. If you look closely, you can see a single purl stitch in lavender (in 4 places on my swatch). But that’s nitpicking. It’s really a pretty simple stitch pattern.

About the Writer: Jody Richards
Jody is the founder and lead editor of Knotions. She loves poring over stitch dictionaries and trying out new stitches.
She’s also on a mission to get everyone to embrace the blocking. And, to avoid using garter stitch edges in knit swatches made for gauge.
And while she likes all things crafting (well ok, except that one thing), yarn crafts are her true love (and she has the stash to prove it).
