Here’s just the toe. I used Knit Picks Heatherly Worsted in the Juice Box colorway.

This is a pretty little edge!
Not Contracting like a Ribbed Cuff
It’s important for you to know that a picot cuff will NOT expand and contract like a ribbed cuff. It’s more of a decorative cuff.
If you rely on ribbing to keep your sock up. this is not the right cuff for you.
But, if you’re looking for a way to add subtle flair, this could be a great option!
Not a Good Option for Multiple Colors
I recommend doing the cuff just in a single color. You don’t want to add even more bulk to it.
Side-View

You can see that it does add some thickness.
How to Knit a Picot Cuff when Making a Top-Down Sock
For this to work, your sock needs to have an even number of stitches.
If it’s odd, the easiest way is to cast-on one additional stitch, and then decrease it away AFTER you’ve completed the cuff.
Provisionally CO an even number of sts.
Knit X rounds (the shortest I recommend is 5 rounds).
Picot Rnd: (YO, k2tog) around.
Knit X rnds again.
Connect the 2 edges together
Fold the cuff at the picot rnd so that the WSs are together. It will naturally want to fold at the picots.
Connect Rnd: Work a k2tog using a stitch from the active sock with a stitch from the provisional cast-on. Go into the sock stitch first and then into the provisional stitch. Do this all around the sock.
When you’re done, all of your provisional sts will be worked and you’ll have a sock with just the number of sts you started with.
If You Made an Additional Stitch with you CO
This is where you should decrease out this stitch.
Now you’re done and ready to knit the rest of your sock!
About the Instructor: Jody Richards

Jody is the founder and lead editor of Knotions. She loves poring over stitch dictionaries and trying out new stitches.
She’s also on a mission to get everyone to embrace the blocking. And, to avoid using garter stitch edges in knit swatches made for gauge.
And while she likes all things crafting (well ok, except that one thing), yarn crafts are her true love (and she has the stash to prove it).
