Chain 3 (ch 3)

Yarn over (yo) and insert hook in third chain from hook.

Pull up a loop. You’ll now have 3 loops on your hook.

Yo again and pull through just the first loop. Now you made your first chain.

Make a double crochet (yo, pull through 2 loops (lps), (2 lps rem on hook)…

yo and pull through 2 rem lps). 1 dc and 1 ch made.

Now, repeat these below steps until you have enough stitches:

Yo and insert hook into the chain you just made in that last stitch. It will be challenging to do at first but we promise it’s there!

Does the first ch 3 count as a dc. That’s the confusion I have about foundation stitches. Thanks.

  That’s a great question!
  
  I would do whichever the pattern instructs for that first dc row. If it counts it, then I would and if it doesn’t count it, then I wouldn’t.
