Many of you know Knotions because you were readers when we first published back in 2008. Some of you learned about Knotions afterwards because you liked a pattern or a tutorial. And some are learning about Knotions for the first time.
Regardless, it’s a reasonable question to ask – Why Should I Publish in Knotions?
Here are some of the things that we do when accepting a pattern for publishing:
- Professionally tech edit
- We check for accuracy (should be 10 instead of 9) and consistency (saying sts everywhere instead of stitches in some places)
- Chart layout
- If your design has chart(s) we lay them out and confirm that they’re correct and easy to read. You can submit a photo of a hand-drawn chart.
- Schematic
- Again, you can submit a hand-drawn schematic. We’ll take care of laying it out and making it readable.
- Photo editing
- We take professional photos and share them with you!
- We’ll crop and zoom in to tell a story with your design. Send us a good-quality FO and we’ll do the rest.
- Rights are shared after a few months
- Rights revert to shared after your design is live for 3 months.
- Publicize your design in ads and social media
- We may choose to feature your design in our marketing campaign.
In addition to what we do for with your pattern when you publish with Knotions, here are a few additional things you get:
- Your design published in a high-quality site and associated with your name.
- The publicity of a launch.
- You get paid for your pattern – Knotions currently pays between 75 and 300 USD for each pattern.
- You can be confident that your pattern will remain live indefinitely. Even when we stopped publishing new patterns the site remained live.
- We’re on the first page for many searches in Google.
If you’re convinced this is a good decision for your business, read our Submission Guide. And if you’re still undecided, feel free to drop us a line and we can talk through your questions. As I always say, it’s only good if it’s good for both of us.
Craft smarter!
About our Creative Director: Jody Richards

Jody is the founder and lead editor of Knotions. She loves poring over stitch dictionaries and trying out new stitches.
She’s also on a mission to get everyone to embrace the blocking. And, to avoid using garter stitch edges in swatches.
And while she likes all things crafting (well ok, except that one thing), yarn crafts are her true love (and she has the stash to prove it).
