Autumn Spice is a unisex slouchy hat, with a vintage inspired chevron panel. Reminiscent of those magical fall trips to Grandma’s house. Apple sauce bubbling on the stove, butter tarts oozing in the oven, and pumpkin pies cooling on the counter. A nearby fire crackles cozily, offering promises of treats, knitting, cuddles and stories.

Pattern Notes
This hat is worked flat from the bottom up and then seamed.
The chevron panel is worked using intarsia.
At the start of RS rows, when switching between colors, you may break the old color before joining the new one and weave in the ends later. If you prefer to carry the resting color(s) up the side when joining a new color, read our tutorial on {carrying a second color in a tidy way}. https://knotions.com/techniques/two-color-knitting-carrying-yarn-side/
Before beginning be sure to wind off approximately 36 yards [33 meters] / 10 grams of MC to use for the intarsia chevron panel.
Chart
Hat
With larger ball of MC and using a tubular long tail method, CO 100 sts, then (DO NOT turn work) switching to a normal long tail method, CO another 23 sts. (123 sts). Note: Using the two cast on methods will mesh best with the ribbing and garter.
Brim
Main part of hat will be worked in 2×2 ribbing and the panel will be worked in garter stitch.

Finishing
Cut approximately 30” [76 cm] tail from the working MC yarn. Using a tapestry needle, thread working yarn through all 13 live stitches. Slide stitches from needle and cinch crown of hat closed by pulling yarn taut.
Weave in any ends from intarsia chevron panel.
Being careful to line up rows, with the length of MC used to close crown, mattress stitch the side of the hat, working from crown to brim.
Weave in any remaining ends.
Wet block gently.
