Camelot by Sabine Riefler

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

November 2008 //  by knotions//  Leave a Comment

camelot_1_lgTwo joined rings for enduring friendship encircled by a symbol of the round table, surrounded by merlons echo the myth of Camelot.

Cables are very hip this winter, but they also make a garment a classic. These mitts combine both twisted stitches and classic cabling and are an ideal project for cable beginners, but will not bore an expert either. The twisted rib pattern ensures a perfect fit.

Wear these mitts with the palmside out for a new look or knit a pair in only the cuff pattern. Make them in different colors and change your winter outfit in an instant. Only one skein is needed to knit them!

They make a wonderful Christmas present that does not take too long to make, but tells the recipient how much you appreciate her (or him).

Pattern Notes

The cuff pattern is worked throughout for the palm. Keep continuity of pattern even while you are working knot pattern for the back of hand. If you want a cuff that is longer than 3” you may need a second skein of yarn.

If your DPN set has 6 needles, you may wish to put the knot pattern stitches on a separate needle.

Left Hand

CO 60 sts onto one DPN. Distribute sts as follows: Needles 1 and 3: 17 sts, needles 2 and 4: 13 sts. Join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist.

Rnds 1 & 2
: P1, *k4, p2, rep from * until 5 sts rem, k4, p1..

Change to cuff pattern and work 32 rnds of cuff pattern (approx. 3 inches),. If you desire a longer cuff, work more reps, but be aware that you may need a second skein of yarn for a longer cuff.

Gusset

Work knot pattern (chart 2) over needles 1 and 2, cont cuff patt over needles 3 and 4. At the same time work gusset at the end of needle 4:

Rnd 1: Pm, m1
Rnd 2: K all gusset sts
Rnd 3: SM, m1, k1, m1
Rnd 4: K all gusset sts
Rnd 5: SM, m1, k to end of gusset sts, m1
Rnd 6: K all gusset sts

Repeat Rnds 5 and 6 until you have a total of 21 sts betn markers, then continue in st st until you have finished Rnd 28 of knot pattern. Put gusset sts on a stitch holder.

Rejoin other sts in the rnd and finish knot pattern.
BO loosely or use Elizabeth Zimmerman’s stretchy sewn bind-off.

Thumb

Place 21 sts back onto 3 dpns evenly spaced, pick up 3 sts at join ridge and pm for beginning of the rnd.

Rnds 1 and 2: *p2, k4, rep from * to end of rnd..

Work 6 rnds in cuff pattern.  BO loosely or use Elizabeth Zimmerman’s stretchy sewn bind-off.

Right Hand

CO 60 sts onto one DPN. Distribute sts as follows: Needles 1 and 3: 17 sts, needles 2 and 4: 13 sts. Join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist.

Rnds 1 & 2: P1, *k4, p2, rep from * until 5 sts rem, k4, p1..

Change to cuff pattern and work 32 rnds of cuff pattern (approx. 3 inches). If you desire a longer cuff, work more reps, but be aware that you may need a second skein of yarn for a longer cuff.

Gusset

Work knot pattern (chart 2) over needles 1 and 2, cont cuff pattern over needles 3 and 4. At the same time work gusset at the end of needle 2 thus:

Rnd 1: Pm, m1
Rnd 2: K all gusset sts
Rnd 3: SM, m1, k1, m1
Rnd 4: K all gusset sts
Rnd 5: SM, m1, k to end of gusset sts, m1
Rnd 6: K all gusset sts

Repeat Rnds 5 and 6 until you have a total of 21 sts betn markers, then continue in st st until you have finished Rnd 28 of knot pattern. Put gusset sts on a stitch holder.

Rejoin other sts in the round and finish knot pattern.

BO loosely or use Elizabeth Zimmerman’s stretchy sewn bind-off.

Thumb

Place 21 sts back onto 3 DPN evenly spaced, pick up 3 sts at join ridge and pm for beginning of the round.

Rnds 1 and 2: *p2, k4, rep from * to end of rnd.

Work 6 rnds in cuff pattern.  BO loosely or use Elizabeth Zimmerman’s stretchy sewn bind-off.
