These romantic mitts were inspired by Medieval windows, doorways, and tracery. Despite their ornate appearance, they are practical too. They have long cuffs to fit under your coats or sweaters and a thumb gusset to allow greater freedom of movement. The dramatic front is mainly accomplished through increases and decreases, with just a few color cables. The back features a simple peerie motif which echoes elements in the rest of the design. Latvian braids set off the design perfectly.

Pattern Notes
- Worked in the rnd, from the cuff up.
- Magic Loop or double points may be substituted as the knitter prefers.
- Increases are worked as closed YOs. For a left-leaning increase, work a standard YO; on the next rnd, k the YO in the back loop. For a right-leaning increase, work a byo; on the next rnd, k into the front leg of the byo. If you make a YO instead of a byo, simply sl the st from the left needle and correct the st mount on the next rnd.
- I think that the Left Latvian Braid looks better with the Right Mitt and vice versa. You can switch it, or use the same braid on both mitts as desired.
- The M mitt fits a small hand comfortably, though it comes down further on the hand than it does on a medium-sized hand. For a shorter or longer cuff, work fewer or more rnds as desired of Rnd 1 of Cuff chart.
- Make sure your floats are not too tight. The Knotions tutorials gives tips on how to avoid this.

About the Designer: Jill Bickers
Jill Bickers learned to knit when she was a teenager. She wasn’t really bitten by the knitting bug for almost 20 years. Since then, she has pretty much always had knitting needles, yarn, and project bags near to hand. Her Works in Progress pile is impressive–almost as impressive as her stash!
She knits while watching TV and listening to audiobooks. She knits in the car (but not when she’s the driver) or anywhere else she can. She especially loves to knit socks.
