Pattern
Using Judy’s Magic Cast-On, CO 40 sts (20 on each needle), place marker and join in the round being careful not to twist: knit one round.
Rnd 1: Kfb, k to 1 st before end, kfb. Rep the same on second needle.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Repeat both rounds until you have 80 sts total (40 on each needle).
From now work “Cable pattern (above)” on first needle only (instep), and knit sts on the second one, (sole).
Repeat rnds 1-8 until 1.5’’ before heel. Mark your last round in pattern, because you will continue the repetitions after heel. Leave the sts of first needle on hold and work heel instructions on second one only.
Heel
The heel is worked with short rows. See our tutorial on short rows.
Row 1.(RS); K to last st, W&T
Row 2: P to last st, W&T
Row 3: K to 1 st before last wrapped st, W&T
Row 4: P to 1 st before last wrapped st, W&T
Repeat last 2rows until you have 16 live sts between wrapped sts. You will be ready to start a RS rnd.
K wrapped st or doble-wrapped st: pick up and knit the wrap(s) together with the st you are working {see our tutorial on short rows}
Row 5 (RS): k to 1st wrapped st, k wrapped st, W&T
Row 6: Sl1, p to 1st wrapped st, pick up and p wrapped st, W&T
Row 7: Sl1, k to 1st double wrapped st, pick up a k double wrapped st, W&T
Row 8.: Sl1, p to 1st double wrapped st, pick up and p double wrapped st, W&T
Repeat rows 7-8 until one double wrapped st rem at each end of work.
Row 9 (RS): sl1, k to double wrapped st, pick up and k double wrapped st. DO NOT TURN WORK
Note: when wrapping st at turning points of short rows, note that sts now have 2 wraps; these sts will referred to as double wrapped sts. When working a double wrapped st on a subsequent row, pick up both wraps and work them tog with the st which had been wrapped.
Continue with Leg Cable pattern on both needles until your sock measures 15cm (6’’) from the end of heel (you will repeat the cable pattern 8 times per rnd). Sequence resumes at the same rnd where you left off before the heels.
Work ribbing pattern *k1, p1* for 10 rnds.
BO using a Stretchy Bind Off {see our tutorial on the decrease bind off), weave in ends and block. Repeat for the second sock and enjoy your new pair of socks
