This is a very unusual maneuver but it’s really not hard! It’s used in Maid Marian to make the leaves airier at the tip!
Before you do this on the real piece, I suggest you do it on a little swatch. A thicker yarn might help too, but the yarn cake will likely be larger too.
Yarn in this tutorial – special thanks to Sweet Georgia for sending us the yarn for this tutorial! It’s Sweet Georgia Trifecta Fine in Sea Glass, and you can read our review here (but spoiler alert, we LOVE it!).
How to Work the TO4

Step 1: Slip 2 together as if to Knit

Step 2: K2tog; 3 sts OTN

Step 3: Pass those first 2 sts over the stitch from the previous step; 1 st on the needle

This is the unusual move – but it’s NOT hard!
Step 4: Pull that stitch’s loop so it’s very big

Step 5: Slip that big st over the yarn cake

Step 6: Yarn Cake is through

Step 7: Pull the tail to tighten it, but don’t strangle it!
You finished TO4!
Take a breath – you did it!
About the Instructor: Jody Richards

Jody is the co-founder and creative director of Knotions. She loves poring over stitch dictionaries and trying out new stitches.
She’s also on a mission to get everyone to embrace the blocking. And, to avoid using garter stitch edges in knit swatches made for gauge.
And while she likes all things crafting (well ok, except that one thing), yarn crafts are her true love (and she has the stash to prove it).
