Tipu means “to grow” in Maori – one of the languages spoken in my country (New Zealand).
The Tipu sweater received its name for several reasons.
Firstly, it was designed to be worn in the transitioning seasons, such as Autumn, when you want to wear knitted garments to fight any chill and the weather is also getting cooler.
Secondly, the sleeve and hem detailing have gentle waves that remind me of tulip silhouettes and some of my favorite flowers.
Lastly (and most significant for myself), I am currently growing as I am expecting a baby! The top-down raglan style and knitted rounds have been a perfect project to work on, while the sleeves add enough interest to the sweater to keep it fun to make!
