Tiwea was inspired by the crispness of half fisherman’s rib and the current trend of interrupted rib. Knitted in a tweedy yarn the pattern creates a thick and warm hat ideal for the upcoming colder days. Available as a fitted beanie or oversized slouchy hat, this pattern includes a woman’s and man’s version.

Instructions are given for woman’s (man’s) hat with instructions for both the beanie and the slouchy hat.
CO 108 (120) sts. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist stitches and placing a marker to denote beginning of round.
Begin Half Fisherman’s Rib
Rnd 1: *K1, p1, rep from * to end.
Rnd 2: *K1b, p1, rep from * to end.
Rep above 2 rnds a further 9 times.
Rnd 21: Knit all sts.
Rnd 22: As round 21.
For beanie
Rep interrupted half fisherman’s rib patt 2 more times. (66 rounds)
For slouchy
Rep interrupted half fisherman’s rib patt 3 more times. (88 rounds)
Crown shaping
Set up rounds
Rnd 1: *K1, p1, rep from * to end.
On the next round, you will place markers on 5 purl stitches. These, in addition to the beginning of round marker, indicate the placement for the decreases to help keep track. Decreases are worked so that you have a panel of three stitches (k,p,k) and decreases are work along each side of the panel.
Rnd 2: (*K1b, p1, rep from * until 16 (18) sts have been worked, k1b, p1 and place marker on the stitch) rep from first * 5 more times.
Decrease rounds
Rnd 1 (dec): (Sl, k1, psso, *k1, p1, rep from * to 3 sts bef p st with marker, k1, k2tog, p1) rep 5 more times 96 (108) sts.
Rnd 2: (K1, *k1b, p1, rep from to 2 sts before p st with maker, k1b, k1, p1) repeat 5 more times.
Rnd 3: K1, *k1, p1, rep from * to 2 st before p st with marker, k2, p1) repeat 5 more times.
Rnd 4: (K1b, *k1b p1, rep from * to 2 st before p st with marker, k1b twice, p1) repeat 5 more times.

Repeat last 8 rounds until 24 (24) sts rem, making sure to work 2 rounds of st st after 20 rows of rib patt when working the decreases to keep the interrupted half fisherman’s rib patt correct.
Next rnd: *Sl1, k1, psso, rep from * to end; 12 (12) sts.
Finishing
Break yarn and draw through rem sts.
Weave in all ends.
Make Pom Pom if desired and attach securely.
