Vox Populi, which means ‘the voice of the people’, is a triangular shawl, worked from the wingspan down. It begins with a garter tab cast on and increases are worked on both the right and wrong side of the shawl. This shawl uses two colors, alternated every four rows throughout the body of the shawl, with the non-working yarn carried up the side {see our tutorial on carrying yarn up the side}. A wide band of garter stitch gives this shawl a nice, squishy edge.

Notes
- This is a triangular shawl worked from the top (wingspan) down.
- The shawl begins with a garter tab cast on and increases are worked on both sides.
- RS rows increases stitch count by 4 sts; WS rows increases by 2 sts.
- For the written instructions, the center stitch is bold.
- The first and last 3 sts of every row are worked in garter stitch.
- You can choose to work either the chart or the written instructions.
Garter Tab
With mc, CO 3 sts. Knit 6 rows. After knitting your last row, do not turn, but rotate your work 90 degrees clockwise, and pick up and knit 3 sts along the long edge of your garter tab. (There are two rows between each garter ‘bump’. Insert the tip of your RH needle between the first and second sts of the row. Wrap your yarn counterclockwise around your needle, and pull the stitch through. Repeat until you have 3 sts.) Rotate your work 90 degrees clockwise again, and pick up 3 sts through the loops of your cast on. (See our tutorial on the garter tab cast on)
You should now have a total of 9 sts on your needles. Continue on with either Chart A or the written instructions.
Next Row (setup and WS): K9.
- Note: Because this first section is worked in Garter Stitch, you may find it helpful to mark the RS of your work with a removable stitch marker.
