“Drop a pebble in the water and its ripples reach out far”
Laharen is about those beautiful ripples in water which space out as they move. I took the cable pattern as the ripples in the contrast of evergreen reverse stockinette
Size
Finished size 4-5yrs (6-7yrs, 8-9yrs, 10-11yrs, 12-13yrs, 14-15yrs, 16yrs)
To fit waist sizes: 22” (23”, 24”, 25”, 25”, 27”, 28”); 56(58, 61, 64, 64, 69, 71)cm
To fit hip sizes: 24” (26”, 28”, 30”, 32”, 34”, 36”); 61(66, 71, 76, 81, 86, 91)cm
Yarn
Nako Saten (100% premium acrylic; 250yards [230meters]/ 100gm): 2 (3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6)balls
Please note that this yarn didn’t retain the ribbing well after a wash. So I suggest washing your swatch first to test and choose the yarn with more structure.
Needles
Size US 7 (4.5 mm) 24” or bigger circular needle, US 4 (3.5 mm)
Notions
Big stitch marker for marking beginning of the row, small stitch markers for marking pattern repeats,
Four to seven 0.5” (1.5cm) Buttons, Cable needle, Tapestry needle
Gauge
18 sts and 28 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking.

Kb (Knit Below) Insert your working needle into the stitch directly below the first stitch on your main needle, knit wise. Wrap your working needle with the working yarn and knit the stitch as normal, pulling yarn through the stitch. Pull the worked stitch and the stitch above off the needle together.
t1r2 (travel 1 st to the right 2 sts) slip 2 sts to the cable needle and hold to the back of the work. Knit the next st, then knit the sts from the cable needle.
t1l2 (travel 1 st to the left 2 sts) slip 1 st to the cable needle and hold to the front of the work. Knit the next two sts, then the knit the st from the cable needle.
sl2k: slip 2 sts knitwise
Pattern Notes
This pattern is worked top down. The waist band with buttonholes is worked flat in ribbing with smaller needles.
The body of the skirt is worked in the round using the larger circular needles.

Ribbing Row 1: K1 *(p1, k1) repeat from * until end of row.
Ribbing Row 2: P1 *(kb, p1) repeat from * until end of row.
repeat row 1 and 2 one more time.
**[Buttonhole row 1: *(K1, p1) repeat from * until last 5 sts, BO next 3 sts, k1.
Buttonhole row 2: P1, k1, CO 3 sts, *(kb, p1) repeat from * until end of row.
Row 6 to row 16: Work Ribbing Row 1 and Ribbing Row 2 five times.].
Repeat from ** 4 (4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6) times.
Button band flap
{From here we’ll work in the round}
Hold 6 sts on the cable needle, *(k1, p1) repeat from * until the last 6 sts. Place the sts on the cable needle behind the remaining 6 sts and now taking one st from left needle and one from cable needle, work them together. *(k2tog, p2tog) repeat from * 3 times. Place big stitch marker to indicate beginning of the row; 104 (112, 120, 128, 140, 148, 156) sts.
Skirt body
Change needle to the larger size. Knit one row.
Increase row 1: *(k2, m1) repeat from * until the end of row; 156 (168, 180, 192, 210, 222, 234) sts.
Increase row 2: k1, m1,*(k3, m1) repeat from * until last 2 sts, knit last 2 sts. 208 (224, 240, 256, 280, 296, 312) sts.

Row 1: *(P2, pm, k6, pm) repeat from * until end of the row.
Row 2: *(Pfb, p, sm, k2, sl2k, k2, sm) repeat from * until end of the row.
Row 3: *(P3, sm, k2, sl2k, k2, sm) repeat from * until end of the row.
Row 4: *(P3, sm, t1r2, t1l2, sm) repeat from * until end of the row.
Row 5: *(Pfb, p until marker, sm, k6, sm) repeat from * until end of the row.

The length of the sample is 16” (41cm)
Finishing
*(K1, P1) repeat from * until end of the row.
Work three rnds of ribbing and bind off loosely.
Weave in the ends using tapestry needle. Sew the buttons in place. Wash and dry flat pinning the middle of the ribbing a little stretched to give the edging scalloped look.
(Optional) To Make the waistband more elastic and fitting, you can choose to insert clear elastic thread to the waist ribbing.
