Finished Measurements
Approximately 8″(L) x 12″(W) – to fit Children to Adult female sizes. Once made up and the ruffles are added, the finished object has a bit more of an organic shape.
Pattern Notes
Worked inside out flat and then joined. Ruffled edges are added. And then a checkered finished is worked flat and attached around the center.
Pattern Instructions
Making the inside
Using C1, chain 19
Row 1: DC in second chain from hook and across chain; 18 DC.
Row 2: Ch2, DC in each DC across; 18 DC.
Repeat row 2 until the piece measures 11 inches in height. Fasten off.
Fold in half lengthwise and SL or sew edges together
Ruffles
Using C1, attach yarn to either end of the piece, *sc, ch 2, sc* in joining stitch; repeat from * across the row, sl in first sc, turn; 36 sc and 18 ch 2 spaces.
Row 2: Ch 1, *SC, ch 2, sc* in the ch 2 space, repeat from * in each ch 2 space across the row until you reach the first sc, sl, fasten off; 36 sc and 18 ch 2 spaces.
Making the outside design
(Checkerboard – C2: Black; C3: Turquoise)
Using C2, chain 19.
Row 1 (RS): Tr in the second stitch from the hook and in the next two sts; change to C3, tr in the next three sts. Repeat this alternation across the row, carrying the yarn from each color along the way.
Row 2 (WS): starting with C3 (if previous tr is black, this row starts with turquoise; chain does not count as a stitch), tr in the next three tr. Repeat this alternation across the row, carrying the yarn from each color along the way until the piece measures 11 inches in length. Fasten off.
Attaching the outer piece to the inner piece
With tapestry needle or slip stitch, seam together outer piece around inner piece.
