The inspiration for this shawl is the return of spring. Rows of tulips, hyacinths and daffodils popping up in the garden signal the return of warmer weather.
This shawl is the perfect accessory to wear for strolling in the garden when the temperatures are still a bit chilly.

This is a crescent shaped shawl worked bottom up beginning with the border lace. Stitches are then picked up and the body is worked to the top using short rows for shaping.
All measurements are taken after blocking. Gauge is not critical but will affect the amount of yarn needed.

Shawl Instructions
Border
Note: There are no RS and WS Row indicators. The lace pattern is worked from right to left as if Row 1 were the RS; however, after ending with Row 11 and binding off the stitches for the border, the actual RS will be in position for the pick-up row for the shawl body.
Using CC, cast on 28 sts.
Work Rows 5-12 of the Border Lace pattern 1 time, from chart or written instructions below, then work Rows 1-12 40 times, ending the final rep with Row 11.
Next Row: BO all sts loosely, leaving last st on needle.
Shawl Body
Without turning, use MC to pick up 1 st in each slipped st across the edge of the border (244 sts).
Row 1: K.
Begin working short rows as follows:
Set-up Row 1 (RS): K122, place center marker, k2, w&t, pm.
Set-up Row 2 (WS): K to center marker (this marker can be removed if desired), sm, k2, w&t, pm.
Short Row: K to wrapped st, work wrap together with its st, remove m, k2, w&t, replace m.
Rep Short Row until there are 2 sts left on each side
Next Row: K to wrapped st, work wrap together with its st, remove m, k to end.
Rep this Row 1 time.
BO all sts loosely as follows, or with your favorite stretchy BO method:
K2, pass 2nd st on right ndl over 1st st, *yo, k1, pass 2nd st and yo over 1st st; rep from * to last st; fasten off.
Finishing
Wet block the shawl by soaking in your favorite wool wash for at 20 min. Gently squeeze out the excess water and roll in a towel to remove as much water as possible. Shape shawl to measurements, pinning out border points, and let air dry. Weave in all ends.
