Tactile Stimuli Shawl

A friend challenged me to push my designing skills: a semi-circular shawl with only textured stitches – knit and purl, no lace, no cables.

This is the design I came up with – a motif at the top finishing off with some ribbing so it lays flat and doesn’t curl. It’s a pretty design but conforms to my friend’s rules.

solstice luna sock (80% superwash merino/10% cashmere/10% nylon, 430 yards [393 meters]/115 grams): black currant, 1 hank

Needles

Size US 4 (3.5 mm): 32” circular

Notions

7 markers, waste yarn for provisional cast on, tapestry needle

Gauge

18 sts and 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking.

With your left needle, pick up the provisional co and the 7 slipped ladders along the backside. Slip 3 sts from right back to left needle; 13 sts

Finishing

Weave in ends. Soak, gently squeeze out water and lay flat to dry.
