There are lots of ways to cast on with Brioche.
There are a couple elements to keep in mind:
- it should be S T R E T C H Y
- A long-tail cast on is great! Just make it sure you use our trick to make it stretchy.
- if you’re making a 2-color Brioche project, you might want to use a 2-color cast on as well. We have a couple for you to try:
And I know we already said it but we’re going to say it again. A CAST ON FOR BRIOCHE KNITTING SHOULD BE STRETCHY!

About the Instructor: Jody Richards
Jody is the founder and lead editor of Knotions. She loves poring over stitch dictionaries and trying out new stitches. And while she likes all things crafting (well ok, except that one thing), yarn crafts are her true love (and she has the stash to prove it).
She’s a serial starter-of-projects and has a serious problem with finishing things without a deadline.
And don’t get her talking about hand-dyed yarns. You’ve been warned.
